Resetting Workflow Instances in 3 Easy Steps

Resetting Workflow Instances Resetting Workflow Instances

Have you ever wanted to simply run and re-run a specific workflow instance without executing the entire workflow definition?

Sure you have, it is a common practice to create workflow instances that are copies of larger workflow definitions for testing purposes.  And during those workflow instances tests, it is also fairly common to make a change to the definition.

After all, that is the purpose of testing the workflow instances in the first place, to make changes to the variables and to improve data table efficiencies.

So why do the available Business Process Management (BPM) workflow software tools either limit (substitute "limit" for "restrict by making it overly complicated") or block this function?

Resetting Workflow Instances

Looking back, cDevWorkflow was born from our frustration with the existing BPM tools and the way they processed such an integral BPM function as Resetting Workflow Instances.  That is why we removed the risk and complication from this workflow programming step with our own product.

Consider the steps most of these BPM workflow products force you to perform in order to re-execute and test the workflow instance.  In most cases, you have to perform the following actions:

  1. Create a definition
  2. Create an instance from the definition
  3. Execute the workflow instance
  4. Remove the workflow instance
  5. Change the definition
  6. Re-create the workflow instance from the updated definition
  7. Execute the workflow instance

With cDevWorkflow, we make it very simple to reset an workflow instance.  Regardless if you made an edit to the workflow definition or if you simply want to re-execute the workflow instance the resetting procedure is the same.

Our procedure for resetting workflow instances:

Step 1: Select "INSTANCES" from main menu bar

Step 2: Select the workflow instance to be reset from the "Instances Library"

Step 3: Select "Reset" from the "MANAGE INSTANCES" menu bar.

Sorry. That is all there is to it. Only three steps to reset your workflow instances.

Did you notice?

That "Reset" is only one of the 14 different "Manage Instances" functions built into the product by our technologists.  Seems when a programmer wants to solve a problem with the software tools he is forced to use - he really solves the problem.

We are confident that with cDevWorkflow you will never have to complain about resetting workflow instances again.  Three clicks and done.
